As an online business owner, your Instagram account has the ability to serve as a mini-website for your products and services. Your Instagram bio is the first look someone will get at who you are and what you do. When you’re creating your bio, you want to think of it from the perspective of someone who just found your account. What do they need to know about you to think that the information you share is worthy enough for a follow?
Here are 6 things you want to include in your Instagram bio to make sure that people want to follow you right when they find you.
The first thing you want to let people know is who you are and what you do. Include your job title in your name to help people understand what kind of work you do.
Let people know a little bit about your background and journey. How did you get started? How did you become an expert in the work you do?
When you position yourself on Instagram, you let people know why they should follow you today. Way too many entrepreneurs make their Instagram bio “I help so-and-so do whatever.” This gives me no incentive to follow you right NOW. In my bio, you’ll find that I share marketing knowledge with you daily to help you scale.
Now that people know who you are, what you do, what you’ve done before, and what they can learn from you, you want to tell them why they can trust you. Figure out what makes you an expert in your topic and shout it out! Do you have a certification? Do you have a lot of years of experience? Have you worked with a large number of clients helping them to achieve a specific goal? Let us know!
After people have read your entire bio, you want to give them the next steps. Should they click the link in your bio to book a call with you to learn about your latest offer? Should they DM you to learn about your services? Let them know what you want them to do next and this will increase the likelihood that they will.
Make sure you have some kind of link in your bio that gives people their next steps. Whether that’s the link to your sales page, calendar, or something else! I highly recommend only having one link in your bio and avoiding using sites like Linktr.ee if you’re just getting started. Wondering why? Send me a DM on Instagram and I’ll let you know.

You valuing my stories and thoughts is enough. Enough for me to keep writing as long as the universe keeps providing me with the resources to do so. If you’ve valued my writing and my stories enough to donate, that’s just mother effing icing on the cake! Want to show your appreciation?
